Finger Map
Meteorite

Meteorite has a unique fingermap based on angle mod that assigns W to the middle finger instead of index, making the left middle and left index fingers responsible for two-dimensional “clusters” rather than upright columns like most layouts. As with all angle mod layouts, this combination reduces left pinky movement, since it’s only responsible for BN. The leftover key becoming a fourth key for the middle finger (instead of a seventh key for the index in regular angle mod) helps with overall finger balance and takes advantage of the middle finger’s strength.

Kanata is a keyboard remapper that works on Windows, macOS, and Linux.

  1. Install Kanata by following “Step 1: Set Up Kanata” in Nova’s Kanata setup guide:

  2. Download the Kanata config file for Meteorite:

  3. Make sure you know how to type your computer password using Meteorite.

  4. Run Kanata with the downloaded config file and make sure the layout works as you expect:

    kanata --cfg path/to/config.kbd
  5. To have Meteorite activate whenever your computer starts up, follow the instructions to “Automatically start Kanata”:
